Big Boy Room

Ay's Big Boy Room

I debated between an “Animal” theme and “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” theme. Ay is really into animal sounds right now. What does a pig say… “Oink Oink” and so on, but I think the planes, trains and automobiles will be better for the long haul. More versatile for when he gets older, and what boy doesn’t like things that go VROOM! I know his daddy sure does.

So with that, this is what I plan on doing in his room. It’s the first room I want DONE before any of the others, just because he deserves it.

First, what we’re working with.

View from the door

View of the Closet

View of the door & long empty wall

Second, the idea.

1/2/3/4

Automobiles 1) I want to do an A obviously and put magnetic strips underneath it for him to store his cars when older. I initially wanted to do his entire name, but decided that would be too cumbersome and wasn’t functional like the storage idea.

Airplane 2) This was where the idea started. (Pinterest, of course, but I can't find the original souce) I want to hang a plane in the corner above a nightstand. I saw an actual plane that was a light as well. Which would be cool, but at $180.00, not so cool.

Wall Art 3) I want to do this for each; Plane, Train and a car or truck. It’s a pretty sweet idea. I think I can do it by myself, though at just $15.00 not to bad from etsy.

Carpet 4) This will be fun and functional for the baby. Plus my brother, had one and he I played with it all the time.

Trains ?) I haven’t found anything that I really like for the trains aspect of the room. Hopefully when I go shopping something will pop out.

Lastly, the plan.

I want to paint the room a light blue, since we already have curtains that will match and block out a lot of light for when he sleeps (it must be dark!). I want to stuff his dresser in the closet, crossing my fingers that it will fit.

I should really get going on these projects if I want it done by the time we are all moved in. (If these people in “Underwriting” would hurry the crap up!) Which should be in the next five days according to contract…I must say I’m a little nervous! But I believe that this will work out, so it will!

House Tour

This is our new house, 1950’s Brick Ranch. These pictures are from when we signed the contract after our house inspection.

You can’t even see the house! Zero curb appeal.  Plan on taking out a tree (or two) and we can’t decide on taking that big pine tree out or not. I think it’ll look awesome at Christmas time. We’ll see!

That’s my big picture window. I’ve always wanted one of those!! It was on the list of must haves for me. On the right, leading up those stairs baby is on, is an unheated mudroom, which has a door into the kitchen and back yard, all 4.75 acres of it! Which according to the husband, was the only thing on his must have list. I’m hoping that husband will tie in the stairs and the sidewalk leading to the front door.

Here are all the cabinets in the kitchen, which I must admit, I am a little apprehensive about. This house doesn’t have a pantry like our last place. I’m hoping that everything will fit here. Plus, the window looks over the back yard, which is nice.

This is where the oven and refrigerator must go, I’m hoping to either put a rolling cart in between the two for prep work and cooking storage.

Here is the opposite side of the cabinets, husband is coming from mudroom, baby is looking towards living room and the door on the left is to the full (unfinished) basement.

Here we are in the living room, by the front door. Which, is all sorts of confusing, I’m not sure why the front door is on the complete opposite side of the driveway. I don’t think that door will be used much. The paint color? It’s much softer in person…however,  IT MUST GO! Off of the living room you have three bedrooms and a bath. One bedroom is right off the kitchen with two closets, which I want to convert that into the dinning room with a “cloffice” in one closet and I’m not sure what to do with the other closet. See that window below? I want to make that into a door or sliding glass door leading either to a sun room or a deck.

Oh, and I’d be a bad wife if I didn’t show a picture of our back yard.
Barn

Our Barn and Burn pile, with 4.75 acres, this is all I have a picture of. I’ve only gone out to the edge of the property line once. Came back with a cut on my foot and a splinter, apparently flip flops are NOT good shoes to where while exploring.

This is an Instagram picture I have of the grapes that are overgrown about halfway down the property.

Our plan for this weekend is going to look at paint chips. This is where I get nervous, I had a hard time choosing what to do for baby’s room when he was born, so I did nothing, short of picking out a bed set. I can’t wait for Young House Love's book to come out. Tip #213, conquer paint paralysis, but by the time I own that, we’ll be in our house with it already painted. ;) Hopefully.

Well, it’s just paint, doesn’t have to last forever.

9-18-12: I've linked up at a bowl full of lemons, one project at a time link party. I think I'm suppose to put a button on here... Can't figure it out, but here's the link!!! ha ha.

Welcome

Hello!
I’m Amanda and I am so excited to join the ever-expanding land of blogging!
First, on me, I’m a 24(I think…) full-time mom, wife and worker. I’m married to James, mother of Ayden (Baby) & Tucker (Dog), and employee of a doctor’s office, where I do mostly billing work. I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and organizing! We are in the end stage of purchasing our first REAL house, so I have BIG plans.
Secondly, on this blog, I am excited to share with everyone my life, ideas and projects. I started reading blogs when I came back to work from maternity leave. I was looking for a dresser and came across Erin’s post @ Domestic Adventure post on a yellow dresser, which lead to more blogs, which lead to pinterest, which lead to this blog. With our new home, I want to decorate, organize and live like no other, in our forever home.
I hope this will hold me accountable for the projects I want to do! (Like re-doing my son’s dresser…that hasn’t even happened, YET!)

Let the adventures begin!
